Support Scheme for Renewable Heat

Switch from fossil fuel to renewable heating

This scheme promotes the use of renewable sources for heating to reduce Ireland’s reliance on fossil fuels for a more energy-independent future.

Who is it for?

For businesses that want to replace existing fossil fuel heating systems with renewable alternatives.

You might be eligible if: 

  • You are a business of any size, including agricultural, public sector bodies and non-profit organisations 
  • You comply with the specific requirements and regulations outlined by the SEAI


Eligibility is subject to terms and conditions.


What do you get?

Two types of support are offered:

  • For biomass and biogas boilers: tariff-based payments for 15 years to bridge the gap between the cost of renewable heating and conventional fossil fuels
  • For commercial heat pumps: a one-off grant of up to 40% to cover some of the heat pump installation PLUS an additional 30% one-off grant towards any related energy efficiency measures.

What can it be used for?

  • Offsetting the operational costs of biomass and biogas heating systems, making them more affordable
  • Reducing the initial investment cost of installing commercial heat pumps
  • The generated heat must be used for space heating or specific industrial processes
