The Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment’s vision is to make Ireland the best place to succeed in business across all parts of our country, with vibrant, competitive enterprises, more high-quality employment, growing trade, fair workplaces and higher productivity. We have lead responsibility for implementing the Government’s policies on stimulating the long-term productive capacity of the economy, creating an environment which supports job creation and maintenance, global trade and inward investment and a remit to promote fair competition in the marketplace, protect consumers and safeguard workers.

The Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment (DETE) plays a key role in implementing the Government’s policies of stimulating the economy and creating an environment which supports job creation and maintenance. DETE has lead responsibility for: 

  • Irish policy on global trade and inward investment

  • Protect consumers 
  • Safeguard workers

The Skills for Better Business Online Assessment is a free resource offered by the Irish Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment (DETE) specifically for small and medium-sized business (SME) owner-managers. It's a self-assessment tool designed to help you identify your strengths and weaknesses in various business competency areas.

Advice & Mentoring

You may be eligible if:

  • You are an owner-manager of small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) in Ireland. While others can take it, the focus is on those who lead and manage a team of people within an SME.

Climate Toolkit 4 Business

This Toolkit provides you with practical ways to start taking action to tackling carbon emissions and become more sustainable.

The Department of Enterprise's Climate Toolkit for Business is an Irish government initiative designed to help small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) on their journey to becoming more sustainable and reducing their carbon footprint.

Small Companies Administrative Rescue Process (SCARP)

A simplified restructuring process for viable small businesses facing temporary financial difficulties.

SCARP simplifies debt restructuring for viable small businesses with temporary issues. Initiated by directors, it bypasses courts with creditor approval, offering a faster and cheaper alternative to examinership to save jobs and maximize creditor value. 

Advice & Mentoring

To avail of SCARP, a company must meet the following criteria: 

  • The company must be a small or micro company as defined by the Companies Act 2014. 

  • The company is, or is likely to be, unable to pay its debts. 

  • The company must not be in liquidation and not have appointed an examiner or process adviser in the previous 5 years. 

  • If a receiver has been appointed to the company, the company is eligible only if that receiver has been appointed for a period of less than 3 working days. 

  

To avail of SCARP a company must also be fundamentally viable and capable of trading its way out of its current difficulties. Assessing the viability of the company is the first determination which the process adviser is required to make following their initial appointment by the directors of the company.

The Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment's Grow Digital portal is a a digital toolkit for all businesses, to help them to embrace the opportunities that digital technologies and tools can offer.

  • You are at any stage of your digital journey, but especially for those who are just starting out. You can use the tool to assess where you are now, what you can do moving forward, and where you can go to get help.

One-stop shop supporting companies and public sector organisations to respond to digital challenges and become more competitive

This EDIH specialises in advancing digitalisation and data innovation for businesses and public bodies.

This EDIH is made up of businesses, innovators, and industry experts from diverse backgrounds, all working together to drive digitisation and make advanced technologies accessible for manufacturing startups and SMEs.

European Digital Innovation Hub - ENTIRE

One-stop shop supporting companies and public sector organisations to respond to digital challenges and become more competitive

This EDIH focuses on supporting organisations active in the digitalisation of life sciences/health tech, agriculture, energy and transport sectors, advancing the exploration, exploitation, and investment by Irish SMEs and public authorities in the utilisation of intelligent secure IoT sensors, networks, and software.
